HEYWOOD IRISH CENTRE have had to change the venue for the FA Sunday Cup match against Sandstone, from Liverpool.

The Huddersfield side, competing in this prestigious competition for the second time following a fine debut last season when they reached the second round, were due to meet their Lancashire rivals at AFC Emley’s Welfare Ground on Sunday, October 14 (2.00) but a clash of dates has forced the Sunday League club to a new venue.

The match will now be played at Laund Hill YMCA on the same day and the same time.

Club secretary Chris Helliwell said: “We are bitterly disappointed to have lost our home ground for the Carlsberg-sponsored FA Sunday Cup as we had two really great days up there in the competition last season.

“We looked at alternative venues but, unfortunately, al the other non-league grounds are out of the immediate Huddersfield area, and as we are proud to be the only side representing the town in this competition we felt it necessary to find a location that was within the Huddersfield area.

“We contacted Steve Graley at YMCA and he has accepted our application and put together a great package for us on matchday. With the new renovations at the YMCA we felt it to be an ideal temporary ground for the competition and we are hoping to create an FA Cup atmosphere up at the Hill.

“And we hope that the new venue doesn’t put supporters off and that a bumper crowd will turn out.”
