AGGRESSIVE defender Danny Adams is training with Town this week.

Released by Stockport County, the 29-year-old left-back is aiming to get fixed up with a club as quickly as possible.

Adams - who played against Town at Edgeley Park in the League and FA Cup this season - was taking part in a practice match at Storthes Hall today.

"I thought Danny played well in both matches against us and, as he is now a free agent, I think it's worth taking a closer look at him," said manager Peter Jackson, who was today starting preparations for Friday night's match at Hartlepool.

"He is a player our physio, Lee Martin, knows well from Macclesfield and when I saw Danny's name on the list of released players last week, I immediately took notice.

"At this stage, we are just taking a look at him and he's taking a look at us, nothing more than that."

Jackson reported no activity on the signings front with just two more days to the Football League transfer deadline for this season, although he was holding initial talks with Delroy Facey today about a permanent move from Hull City.

"So far, I've received no follow-ups from the clubs who rang to ask about a couple of our players last week," he explained.

"I've also heard nothing on the inquiries I've made, so we'll have to wait and see what happens over the next couple of days."

Jackson has already stressed that he won't be allowing players out on loan unless he is certain of additions to his own squad first.

Midfielder Danny Schofield (groin) was expected to join in training today while Tony Carss (also groin) was again under treatment.

Joining in today's practice match were skipper Jon Worthington and teenage left-back Tom Clarke, who were both suspended when Town beat Stockport 5-3 on Saturday to move 11 points above the drop zone with eight matches left.

The first of those is at promotion-chasing Hartlepool, where Town have guaranteed backing from over 400 fans and where Lee Fowler will again hope to be involved after his substitute appearance at the Galpharm, although he is on standby this week for the Wales Under 21 squad.
