It will have to be a watching brief for James Vaughan if he returns to the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

Huddersfield Town loaned the striker to the second-city club in November, and the deal was extended until the end of the season in January.

But Vaughan, who will sign a permanent deal at St Andrew’s this summer, is ineligible against his parent club.

Vaughan, an ex-England Under 21 international, scored 33 goals, including two hat tricks, in 95 Town games.

The Everton product joined Town on loan from Norwich City in August 2012 and the move was made permanent in a £600,000 deal the close-season after.

Birmingham’s top scorer is 11-goal Clayton Donaldson.

The former Brentford frontman netted both goals in Tuesday’s 2-2 home draw with Preston North End.
