TOWN reserves ended their Pontin’s Holidays League campaign on a high with a 3-0 home win over Leicester.

Lucas Akins, Tom Clarke and Luke Malcher grabbed the goals in the Central Division battle between two mainly young sides.

Returning striker Phil Jevons, who has been out with a calf injury, played 75 minutes while there was a run-out for winger Malvin Kamara.

Leicester striker Ricky Sappleton had an early effort disallowed for a foul on Alex Smithies, then the stopper made a good save from the same player in the 11th minute.

Town had the next attack, but after good approach play, Akins scuffed his left-foot shot wide.

Jevons was narrowly off target from Aaron Hardy’s pass before Town took an 18th-minute lead, Akins shooting home after a neat turn onto Kamara’s cross from the left

Danny Racchi came close with a speculative 40-yard lob before Leicester midfielder Lee Cox fired far too high from a good position.

Mitchell Bailey was next to try his luck for Town, but miscued, while his central defensive partner Lewis Nightingale curled a shot wide.

The lively Racchi brought a good save from Carl Pentney in the 32nd minute, but within 60 seconds, the keeper was picking the ball from the back of the net.

Centre-back Tom Jackson flighted in a free-kick from the right and Clarke headed home.

Smithies made a great save from Ashley Chambers’ well-struck free-kick to ensure Town reached half-time still 2-0 up.

Nightingale was unlucky to see his 54th-minute shot from Kamara’s cross kicked off the line while Chambers flashed a shot just over in the 76th minute.

Town cemented their win two minutes after that when substitutes Malcher (on for Nightingale) and Danny Broadbent (for Jevons) combined.

Broadbent won the ball just inside the Leicester half and advanced before passing to Malcher, who netted with a low drive.

Town: Smithies, Hardy, Codman, Nightingale (Malcher, 58mins), Clarke, Jackson, Racchi, Bailey (Harris, 80), Akins, Jevons (Broadbent, 75), Kamara. Subs not used: Ridehalgh, Eastwood.
