HAFC Colts maintained their unbeaten record in Division IV of the RCD Junior League Under 15s.

Holding onto top spot was never going to be easy, however, and it finished 1-1 against a Clifton Rangers side who have lost only once this season.

Jack Graham, Sam Hill and Carl Wolfenden formed a solid defensive line-up for visitors Clifton and HAFC’s early dominance went unrewarded, but Evan Robinson found a way through on 20 minutes to give the home side the lead.

With the home side controlling the game, Clifton were finding it difficult to stage any kind of threat but, when a clearance fell to Sam Hill, the Clifton captain fired a blistering shot from 30 yards which skimmed under the bar into the top corner.

Anesu Madanha set up Patrick Hargreaves with a half chance but the HAFC forward’s snatched shot flew over the bar.

Chances were few for both sides in the second half and they were restricted mainly to long-range efforts.

Clifton almost snatched victory in the closing minutes when Kelvin Wolfenden fed a defence-splitting pass to Hill, but Matthew Berry was alert to the danger and the onrushing keeper managed to block Hill’s shot.

HAFC may feel they missed an opportunity for all three points, but Clifton fully deserved their share of the spoils.

And a large crowd were entertained throughout the contest.
