MOLDGREEN’s Ryan Hall scored both goals as West Riding marched into the national Under 18 final.

The former Huddersfield Minor FA player sealed a 2-0 success against Somerset at Woodlesford and West Riding are now all set to meet Essex FA at Colchester United’s ground on Sunday, April 22 (2pm).

Somerset’s first appearance at the semi-final stage was undone by the excellent Hall, who pounced for his first goal on 14 minutes.

It came after a brilliant run by Luke Robinson (Horsforth and Ripon City) down the left and, after beating two defenders near the corner, he swung over a deep cross which Hall converted with a header.

Robinson then went close himself before Somerset had a chance near half time but West Riding keeper Paul Hagreen (Brighouse Town) made a fantastic double save.

In the second half Somerset continued to press forward when they got the opportunity, in an effort to get level, but they found the two West Riding central defenders Aston Webster (Yorkshire Amateur) and Nathan Massey (East End Park Leeds) in dominant form.

When they did get a sniff of a goal later on, Hagreen made another superb save.

The game remained close until stoppage time when sub Dale Feather of Brighouse went through the middle before releasing Hall with a terrific pass and he did the rest.

It had been a great win for West Riding, who have done superbly to get to the national final, and manager John Gardiner and his assistants Brian Clegg and Jonny Gardiner must take a great deal of praise.

Essex beat Wiltshire County FA 4-0 in their semi-final, after knocking out favourites Middlesex.
