LEGEND Andy Booth summed up the spirit in Town's camp today by declaring his support for Junior Mendes in the starting line-up.

Booth netted his 103rd goal for Town on his 250th League outing for the club to earn Saturday's 1-1 draw at Blackpool and secure eighth place in the League I table.

He will lead the attack again in tomorrow's LDV Vans Trophy return to Bloomfield Road (7.45) but then won't be surprised if he has to step aside for the return of Mendes from international duty against Brentford on Sunday (3.00).

"I'm delighted to have scored and obviously want to be in the side, but Junior was playing ever so well before he went off to Montserrat and I think he deserves the shirt," said Booth today.

"As much as I want to lead the attack, you have to be realistic and acknowledge that Junior and Pawel Abbott have been doing superbly together and scoring goals.

"Pav is top of the League I scoring chart and you can't take anything away from Junior with his six goals in as many games before he went away for the internationals.

"He was playing very well and I think he would be pretty unfortunate after a run like that to come back and not to hold onto the first-team shirt."

Those are generous words from the big man, who added: "The lads here are tremendous and stick together through everything.

"It shows how far we've come in a year that we were all disappointed not to take three points over at Blackpool and, if we'd got another goal I'm sure we would have.

"Hopefully we can make up for that with a win tomorrow night and then press on from there."
