Town promoted? Could happen. England for Euro 2004 glory? I suppose it's possible. Mick Wadsworth to lead Congo to African Nations victory? Maybe not.

Although supporting a football team inevitably brings disappointment and frustration, every once in a while there comes one match that makes it all seem worthwhile.

Saturday was one of those games.

How could it all go so right? Perhaps the absence of Andy Booth's forehead was significant, as Town were forced to exploit other avenues of attack. They certainly looked a different team.

Town began well and not long before half-time, having mounted sustained pressure, took a deserved lead when Jon Stead finished from close range after a Rob Edwards corner.

It was too early to get excited though, having thrown away a similar lead against Oxford only a few weeks ago.

But here's the strange thing. Town played a good second half too - you got 90 minutes for your money.

Doncaster slowed the pace of the game down a bit as they tried to make progress and they had a decent spell early in the second half.

Despite that, Town held them off and eventually Stead got his second with a low hard shot, the likes of which we've seen plenty of times this season.

As Town were then seemingly cruising to victory and a few Rovers `supporters' were heading for the car park, Doncaster pulled one back with plenty of time left on the clock to play for an equaliser.

Fortunately, Town didn't panic and persisted with their own game, which led to the eventual restoration of a comfortable two-goal lead thanks to Jon Worthington getting the best out of a goalmouth scramble.

Town held on at 3-1 and played out what will certainly be remembered as one of the games of the season.

Brilliant atmosphere, superb performance, an excellent football match and the right result.

Oh, and we finished another match with 11 players.

It must be said, the future is looking a lot brighter than it did this time last year and long may we prosper.
