The Seasiders had looked like continuing their hoodoo over the Terriers this season after veteran Ian Marshall had got in front of several defenders to poke John Hills' set piece past Martyn Margetson in the opening seconds of the second half.
Town had been loose in closing down Blackpool defenders during the first half but Marshall made them pay in the second half despite the swirling, blustery conditions on the day that their new stand had opened to a full house.
The gusting wind had earlier forced Martyn Margetson into a smart first half save on his own line after Hills had put in corner which curled back and seemed goalbound with Steve Jenkins missing from his usual position guarding the post.
The Welshman had already seen off efforts from Richard Walker and Ritchie Wellens while Phil Barnes had the advantage of the prevailing wind with him in the first half and saved from Clyde Wijnhard, who should have hit a stronger effort, Danny Schofield, and Leon Knight.
The second half of this largely scrappy contest, played out on a poor pitch with a blustery wind all around, but this allowed Town to work up a greater threat after surviving a tricky opening second period following Murphy's goal.
Schofield tested Barnes once again and the introduction of Delroy Facey saw the Terriers attacking with a greater physical threat.
Leon Knight, who had threatened to do something in the second half, finally grabbed a goal just as it seemed that Town were running out of steam in the 67th minute.
Delroy Facey chased down a lost cause, allowing Adrian Moses to adance up the right flank and put in a great cross which Knight ghosted onto and headed past the despairing Phil Barnes.
The scores were level and the introduction of Kenny Irons soon after saw Town's passing quality improve.
Town were hit by an injury to the industrious Chris Holland and it seemed as though they might play for a draw when they brought on Dwayne Mattis to help anchor the midfield.
Blackpool were not settling for a draw, however, and Martin Bullock came off the bench to terrorise the Town defence again.
Bullock was first denied by Danny Schofield after going past him, then later he laid on a super cross for John Murphy who contrived to miss a golden chance for a late winner with only Martyn Margetson to beat.
These missed chances came back to haunt Blackpool, though, when 4 minutes into injury time, Irons dinked a defence splitting pass into the area and, in the panic, Leon Knight latched onto it and put the finishing touch on Town's comeback.
It was a sweet goal for the Terriers, and the three points could be vital come the end of the season.
