TOWN LADIES went down 4-0 to a better Barnsley team in a third v fourth clash in the North East Premier Division.

Town dominated possession against a physical Barnsley side but with four changes from their win over York they were never able to create any clear chances.

Barnsley went ahead in the first half and, as Town made a better start to the second, they were awarded a penalty which Emma Poole had saved.

Five minutes later Barnsley extended their lead with a disputed goal and then quickly gabbed a third with a shot which gave Laura Carter no chance.

Town pressed but again found clear-cut chances difficult to come by, but player of the match and debutante Lucy Bonner struck a nice shot which was turned round a post by the Barnsley keeper.

A looping shot in the 75th minute left Town defeated and with little hope of promotion.

The first team’s next game is on Sunday at Grange Moor when Hull City visit (2.00).

The reserves are also in action on Sunday at Harrogate (2.00), while the Under 16s are at home (Grange Moor) to Lepton (11.00). The Under 14s kick off 30 minutes earlier against Oakworth.

The Under 12s had a 4-4 draw at Burley Trojans, with Amy Thompson scoring all four.

On a heavy pitch and in the Under 12s final match, Burley went ahead but Thompson equalised on 16 minutes.

Burley went ahead again just before half time after a number of good saves from Town’s player of the match Zoe Cooke.

The teams then exchanged goals through the second half.
