Lee Clark bridled at suggestions his job is under threat after his Birmingham side were beaten two years to the day since he was sacked as Huddersfield Town manager .

Operating on a shoestring budget with an inexperienced squad as the Midlands club’s owner Carson Yeung fights legal problems in Hong Kong, the 41-year-old Geordie said: “I think I’m doing an unbelievable job under my circumstances.

“You ask that question (about his future) because you don’t know the implications of what’s going on.”

Town’s triumph extended 18th-placed Birmingham’s sequence of home league games without a win to 11, equalling the previous worst spell of 1962-63.

“That was probably our worst performance of the season and that’s not taking anything away from Huddersfield, who played well,” added Clark, who bossed Town for just over three years and has been in charge at St Andrew’s since June 2012.

“It looks like we have people who fear playing in front of their own supporters. It’s outrageous. The fans have not turned on us.

“The players have shown at certain times they can play at home.

"Their goalkeeper probably had his easiest day in football.

“You need to have home fans on the edge of their seats, but we’re not doing that It’s nonsensical.

“We try to convince ourselves about total football but that’s not the British way. The fans want to see excitement.

“I put the big man Nikola Zigic on and we still didn’t put balls in. Their defence and keeper must have not been able to believe their luck.

“It was never a one-goal deficit, they were far superior to us. With the exception of the first five minutes, where we started quite brightly, we gradually got worse.

“Our decision-making, ability with ball and our passing game without the ball was absolutely awful.

“We need to spend a hard week on the training ground.”
