Huddersfield Town's Ollie Norwood says the pleasure of a thumping win over Bournemouth had its roots in the pain of last season.

Town, of course, came perilously close to relegation, and were only sure of Championship survival after a dramatic final-day draw with this Saturday’s hosts Barnsley.

“A lot of us were new to this level last time, and I think we have learned quite a few lessons,” said the Northern Ireland international midfielder.

“For a start, it’s very important to get the first goal, and we managed that, then built on it.

“We set out our stall in pre-season in terms of how we want to play.

“The manager has got us passing the ball and that suits me down to the ground.

“Confidence is building throughout the team and we all want to get on the ball whenever possible.

“We’re enjoying training and playing at the minute, but we won’t get carried away.

“We were going strongly in the early part of last season before dipping, and that’s something we want to avoid happening again.”

Norwood came agonisingly close to putting his name on the scoresheet in stoppage time.

And the 22-year-old, who netted three times last term, smiled: “I’ve not been up that end of the field that many times!

“It’s great to be in a situation where you are in command and can push up like that, and over the whole game, I thought we gave them very little.”

Adam Hammill did make the scoresheet, chalking up Town’s first goal in the 14th minute.

The close-season capture from Wolves said: “I’m delighted at the goal and I think the fans could tell from my celebration that it meant a lot.

“The manager has backed me through thick and thin, he’s given me the chance to play football and this goal is one of many rewards I want to give to him and the supporters.

“I also owe a lot to (chairman) Dean Hoyle and all the staff at the club.

“I just want to settle down now, play here for as long as I can.”
