PETER CLARKE says Town have to be ready to “win ugly” as they bid to end a dismal run which has left them 17th in the Championship.

Simon Grayson’s side suffered a fourth defeat in six games when goals by Robert Koren and David Meyler clinched a 2-0 win for Hull at the KC Stadium.

And after a game which ended in controversy with a straight red card for Clarke’s former Town teammate Alex Bruce, who clashed with Alan Lee (see back page of main paper), skipper Clarke said: “We’re not doing the ugly side of the game as well as we were doing.

“Ultimately that’s costing us and we know we have to pick up some results quickly.

“Football’s always been about working hard and doing the basic, nitty-gritty jobs properly and playing on from there.

“We need to get back to basics and make sure we lay a solid platform in matches.

“If we do that, we will start to win games, because we have shown we are good enough.”
