It's an early kick-off at the John Smith's Stadium as Huddersfield Town entertain Blackburn Rovers looking to record a fifth successive league win.

A victory for David Wagner's side against Championship strugglers Rovers will see the side go into 2017 in third position in the table.

Danny Ward is expected to return for Town after a bout of illness against Nottingham Forest but Jonathan Hogg will miss out with a knock while Tareiq Holmes-Dennis is also a doubt.

For the visitors, Ben Marshall is likely to be out with sickness while Jason Lowe and Darragh Lenihan are banned with Elliott Ward, Adam Henley and Tommie Hoban also sidelined.

Bringing you all the pre-match news and extensive match comment and analysis is Blake Welton with expert opinion as ever from Doug Thomson – so you won't miss a thing!

FT: Huddersfield Town 1 Blackburn Rovers 1

That’s it though - there is no last-gasp winning goal here as the referee blow the whistle for the full-time.

Blackburn Rovers came with a game plan to frustrate and it nearly came off for the visitors after their only real effort of the entire game led to a goal.

How costly could this result be in the grand scheme of things? Or how important will that point be in the new year?

Only time will tell but in the meantime, stick with us as we bring you all the best post-match comment and analysis...

Huddersfield Town 1 Blackburn Rovers 1

90+3 Minutes: Substitute Jack Payne was fouled by Bennet just outside the area with Nahki Wells coolly stepping up to curl the ball into the top corner...Now they go forward looking for a second!!

Doug Thomson with his view...

I’ve not seen such a negative performance as this from a side in a long time - it’s real ‘Park The Bus’ football from Blackburn Rovers. Having said that, it’s upto Town to come up with some answers for it....

Better

72 Minutes: Great pressing from Wells before he tries to feed in Harry Bunn but Charlie Mulgrew recovers well to clear - that good work from the Bermudian forward has got the crowd going though!

  • Share

Substitution

69 Minutes: First one for Blackburn Rovers - Elliott Bennett replaces Corry Evans.

Wi-fi Issues

We’re having a few difficulties at the moment – bear with us. Still 0-0 though and truth be told you haven’t missed too much!!

Frustration

64 Minutes: Chris Lowe tries to find a man in the box with a free-kick but it’s easily claimed by Steele - both the game and the crowd are very subdued at the minute.

On Cue

59 Minutes: Double substitution for Town - Jack Payne and Harry Bunn come on for Kasey Palmer and Rajiv van La Parra.

Wrong changes for me...like-for-like when Town really needed something new to unlock this stubborn Rovers defence.

Terrible!!!

I thought Nottingham Forest were poor but this Blackburn Rovers side are diabolical!! Jason Steele once again time wastes from a goal-kick before booting the ball out of play.

Sacrifice Dean Whitehead (booked) and bring on Jack Payne for a bit more attacking impetus...

Agree - keep faith, it will come! No chances of note so far in the second 45 minutes....

Pattern of Play

46 Minutes: Nice to see it hasn’t changed so far in the second-half as Rovers keeper Jason Steele takes an age with a free-kick...

Second Half

Huddersfield Town get the second 45 minutes underway - need a goal, need a goal, need a goal....

HT: Huddersfield Town 0 Blackburn Rovers 0

It’s been all Town in a classic example of Attack vs Defence but so far David Wagner’s side have been left frustrated by the visitors....arguably the best chances coming in the first minute and when Steele saved well from Nahki Wells.

Let’s be patient Town fans - it’s a case of softly, softly at the moment....

Added Time

One minute of additional time to be added at the end of this half.

  • Share

Over the Bar

41 Minutes: Wells flicks on Lowe’s cross to van La Parra but his shot is high and wide...This game desperately needs a Town goal - it might force Rovers to actually come out and try and play!

  • Share

40 Minutes

It’s still Huddersfield Town 0 Blackburn Rovers 0 - Smith wins Town a corner after a superb switch by Kasey Palmer but it comes to nothing.

Story of the game so far, Town will all the neat play but can’t find the final killer ball against a stubborn visiting side happy to come here and claim a point...

So Close!!!

31 Minutes: Michael Hefele find Tommy Smith who whips in another great ball to finds Wells six yards out but the forward’s shot is brilliantly saved by Steele!!
