Signing Off
Well that is all from me tonight on what has turned out to be a very cold and miserable evening in Shrewsbury.
If you made the trip down, safe journey back and I will see you again on Saturday afternoon when we travel to Newcastle United.
Until then, Keep the Faith!
Coming Up...
Stick with us folk - we’ll have all the post-match reaction and analysis from the Greenhous Meadow Stadium.
FT: Shrewsbury Town 2 Huddersfield Town 1
After the fabulous start to the season on Saturday, David Wagner’s men come crashing down to reality tonight - after letting in a goal as early as the first minute it was all Huddersfield but too many times the Terriers were unable to take their chances.
Elias Kachunga levelled the score just before half time but David Wagner will be disappointed his side didn’t kick-on in the second period and eventually succumbed to a sloppy goal.
Final Whistle
And that is it! The whistle blows and Huddersfield Town have been dumped out of this season’s League Cup by Shrewsbury Town...
Town Pushing...
There’s a scramble in the Shrewsbury box but the ball is cleared and Toney races down the field but his shot is well saved by Danny Ward.
The Shrewsbury fans are in good voice now - they sense a cup scalp is beckoning....
Shrews On Top
There is three minutes left of normal time remaining but despite Town searching for a winner it looks more likely Shrewsbury will grab a third on the break...
Substitution
But they do not get their wish - Michael Hefele is instead the third and final substitute for David Wagner’s men, replacing Chris Löwe.
Substitution
And Louis Dodds reward for that goal? Being replaced by Abu Ogogo.
Meanwhile, the Town fans call out for Nahki Wells...
Shrewsbury Town 2 Huddersfield 1
Searching for the winner, Town are stretched at the back as the Shrews break - Toney leading the surge forward before the ball finds Dodds who’s shot squeezes into the bottom corner after Danny Ward is unable to control.
Spoke Too Soon
No sooner do I post that Shrewsbury Town retake the lead!!! Louis Dodds with the strike which Danny Ward fumbles to see the ball trickle into his own net.
All to do for Town now...
68 Mins
And it’s still 1-1 here at the Greenhous Meadow....much more open second half with Kasey Palmer in particular looking lively.
We just need a winner now - before I get hypothermia....it’s chilly here tonight and I am struggling to type!
Chance!
A surging run forward by Chris Schindler brings about a foul and a free-kick just outside the area for Town....Up steps Palmer but his audacious curling free-kick is well saved by Leutwiler in the Shrews goal...
Fan Chant
The young midfielder is greeted by Kasey Kasey Kasey Kasey Kasey Kasey Kasey PALMER! from the Pro-Vision CCTV Stand to my right.
Good Stuff from the travelling faithful.
Substitution
Jack Payne is replaced Kasey Palmer - last time he came on he scored the winner.
Can he do it again tonight?
End To End
This game has really opened up in the second half - end to end stuff as Shrewsbury Town’s manager Micky Mellow has clearly urged his side to be braver in the second half and have a go at Town.
Other than the opening goal they offered nothing in the first 45 minutes.
Déjà Vu
Shades of the first-half as Shrewsbury nearly retake the lead in the opening minutes - Louis Dodds hits a snapshot which Danny Ward spills for a minute before collecting....
Substitutions
One apiece at the interval - Jonathan Hogg is replaced by Ivan Paurević while Shrewsbury give a debut to new signing Ivan Toney in place of goalscorer AJ Leitch-Smith.
HT: Shrewsbury Town 1 Huddersfield Town 1
After going down 1-0 after only 21 seconds, Huddersfield Town dominated the first 45 minutes and got a well-earned equaliser through the head of Elias Kachunga.
Great to see the side so disciplined and composed after an early set-back that could have shaken them and, if Jack Payne had a bit more composure in front of goal could have been out of sight by now.
Aaron Mooy
The Australian was named in the Championship Team Of The Week for his performance against Brentford and has been impressive again tonight.
I haven’t seen him mis-place a single pass so far in his Town career so far.
Shrewsbury Town 1 Huddersfield Town 1
A great team goal finished with another fantastic header from Elias Kachunga....
Rajiv van La Parra plays the ball into Aaron Mooy who surges into the box before playing a delight cross that hangs perfectly in the air for the forward to make it 1-1.
