Wagner, who is close to Klopp after the pair worked together at Borussia Dortmund, handed Chilwell his professional league debut against Middlesbrough last month and was clearly impressed with what he saw.

Ben kept his place for the trip to Birmingham, ahead of senior Australian international Jason Davidson.

He was justly rewarded with a fine performance, and Chilwell was named in WhoScored’s Championship Team of the Week after a committed display in the Midlands.

Klopp is now said to be keeping close tabs on the defender, who has also been linked with Manchester United.

Captain of the England u20s side, Chilwell has also represented his country at u18 and u19 level, and was recently called up to the u21s squad.

Speaking about the step up to Championship football after playing u21 football with the Foxes, Ben said: “It’s very different.

“It’s a lot more physical, and the desire to win is miles higher. At the end of the day, it is about players’ livelihoods.

“It’s an environment in which winning is everything, and it’s something I need to experience as part of my development.”

Leicester are reportedly ready to offer Chilwell a new contract to keep him at the King Power Stadium.
