Huddersfield Town and their Liverpool keeper signing Danny Ward could be up against a very familiar face in one of their early matches of the season.

With Brad Guzan set to be confirmed as Middlesbrough’s ninth signing of the summer, goalkeeper Jed Steer could be in line to face David Wagner’s men on Tuesday, August 16.

That’s Town’s third Championship match of the season after the home opener against Brentford (August 6), the League Cup trip to Shrewsbury (August 9) and the massive trip to Newcastle United (August 13).

Jed Steer in action for Town last season

The 23-year-old Steer, of course, returned to Villa at the end of last season after making 38 appearances for Town, all in the Championship.

He’d previously had loan spells with Doncaster and Yeovil and made his Premier League debut for Villa in May 2015, against Burnley, which is his only top-flight appearance to date.

Town have drafted in Liverpool loan man Ward for the season after his heroics with Wales in Euro 2016 and have both Joel Coleman (Oldham) and Joe Murphy as senior back, when the latter is fully fit.

They also have Luke Coddington impressing in pre-season after joining the Under 21 Development group, and also George Dorrington, who had a trial last season from Manchester United and subsequently signed to work with the Under 21s.
