Huddersfield Town striker Martin Paterson will aim to continue his positive start at Fleetwood Town when the Cod Army host Walsall on Saturday.

The loaned-out Northern Ireland player helped Graham Alexander’s side win 1-0 at Yeovil Town in League One this weekend and secured a 90-minute runout before being substituted in stoppage time, with Jeff Hughes scoring a late winner.

Paterson, 27, played alongside Alexander at Burnley, from whom Town signed him during the 2013 close-season.

His loan to Fleetwood, who are 10th in League One, runs until January 3, although Town have a recall clause after December 12.

Fleetwood’s squad also includes former Town midfielder Keith Southern.

Jonathan Stead was unable to score for a third consecutive game, but still helped Bradford City win 2-1 at Preston North End.

It was a welcome first win in six League One games for the Bantams, who are 13th.

Stead, 31, has played six times for them, scoring twice.

His Valley Parade stay also runs until January 3, although a recall option is now available.

In League Two, Danny Carr got 60 minutes under his belt as 10-man Mansfield Town went down 2-0 at in-form Shrewsbury Town after a Jamie McGuire sending-off and Matt Crooks played 56 minutes for bottom-of-the-table Hartlepool United in a 1-0 defeat at Southend United.

Jake Carroll was not in action with Partick Thistle this weekend as there were no Scottish Premiership matches due to the international break.
