Huddersfield Town's latest loan rangers Matt Crooks and Danny Carr are preparing for second appearances for Hartlepool and Mansfield respectively.

Each made debuts for their temporary clubs during Tuesday’s League II programme.

Versatile Crooks came on at half-time as second-bottom Hartlepool lost 3-1 at Accrington.

And striker Carr appeared as a second-half substitute during 17th-placed Mansfield’s 0-0 draw at Tranmere.

It was only a second senior appearance for 20-year-old Crooks, who started Town’s opening game of the Championship campaign against Bournemouth.

And stand-in Hartlepool manager Sam Collins, the former Town defender, admitted is was a testing night.

Crooks, who played centre-back against Bournemouth, replaced on-loan Middlesbrough striker Charlie Wyke, who was struggling with a chest infection.

“Matt is a big, strong lad,” said Collins, whose side go to Cambridge on Saturday. “Charlie wasn’t very well before the game, that is why we had to take him off.

“It was typical of him that he wanted to play and have a go. When we came in at half-time he looked dreadful and it wasn’t fair on him to carry on playing.

“Crooksy played for an hour at Huddersfield on Monday (in the Under 21s’ 1-0 defeat by Charlton at PPG Canalside).

“It was hard for him but we didn’t have any other options or choices.

“He has had a good go and had a chance he should have scored from.

“But that is not why we have lost the game. “We lost because we cannot keep a clean sheet.”

Mansfield, managed by Paul Cox, head to York on Saturday.

Loaned-out Town striker Jon Stead played the full game as Bradford drew 2-2 at Bristol City in League I.
