BLACK BULL gained revenge for last season’s Challenge Cup final defeat by beating holders Britannia Sports 4-0 in the semi-final at Leeds Road Playing Fields.

In a tight first half, Danny Ingham finished at the near post to give Bull a 1-0 half-time lead, but after the restart Bull played very well and increased their lead from a long throw-in, which was turned in by sub Gary Bradley.

Jason Thorpe made it 3-0 on the hour when he struck a tremendous 25-yard drive into the top corner.

Shortly afterwards Bull were awarded a penalty, taken by Josh Ingham, but Britannia keeper Sam McDermott made an incredible double save, the woodwork denying the same player from scoring.

Damian Sykes completed the scoring for Bull, whose all-round team performance was superb, ably marshalled in defence by Lee Bradbury, while Danny Simpson played exceptionally well on the wing.

Britannia had few chances, the best being a Bob Elliott header, bringing a point-blank save out of Bull keeper Carl Auckland.

Bull manager Andy Brook said: “It’s the best we have played for three years and everyone contributed to the result. And I must credit the Leeds Road groundstaff for the excellent pitch.”

In the other semi, Athletico Monkey had a somewhat surprisingly emphatic 7-2 success over Craven.

It was the Dean Siddiq show, the Monkey player going nap with five goals.

Ben Dobson had a fine game, and was also on target for Monkey, as was Andrew Roberts with a bullet header.

Siddiq’s goals were varied, ranging from a well-struck free kick, to racing for goal with power and skill, to cleverly beating the offside trap.

In midfield, Will Davidson was superb for Monkey, with teammate Adam Fell making some well-timed tackles, denying Craven’s Daz Smith with a well-executed challenge, while Jonny Pearson was also sound at the back for Monkey.

For Craven, Nick Monahan disappointingly fired over when well set up by Dave Brennan and Gavin Connor was brilliantly tackled when he bore down on Monkey’s goal.

Craven’s Daz Shaw played well in defence and Matt Butters battled well in midfield with no reward for Craven, who found themselves 7-0 down before pulling back two late goals – the last one a penalty from Brennan.

Neither Black Bull nor Athletico Monkey have won the Cup before, so it promises to be a hard-fought and well-contested final between two teams determined to win some silverware.

New Division I leaders Town Boys beat former top side Waterloo BC 4-1 at Almondbury Rec with scores from A Murray (2), Damian Murray and Majid Khan.

The very confident Boys side stole a march on their title rivals despite the home side starting the brighter. But they never managed to get a clear opportunity on goal and eventually were made to pay the price as Town went into the lead.

Waterloo managed to hit straight back when the ball was handled in the area and Dave Atkinson converted the resulting spot kick.

But after the break the visitors remained in control and their forward line had far too much pace for out-of-form Waterloo and constantly hit them well on the break and scored at regular intervals.

Improving Woolpack drew 4-4 with fourth-placed Woodfield Park at Standiforth Rec on Monday in Division II.

Park went 4-1 up through Carl Ross (2), Paul Bosworth and Mark Robertshaw, but conceded three late goals for a share of the spoils.
