SLAITHWAITE United got back to winning ways after their disappointing result against Westend the previous week, scoring a 3-0 win at Kirkheaton in Division II.

Although dominating the play, it wasn’t until the 20th minute that United took the lead, Ashley Scott’s through-ball releasing Julian Atkinson, who slotted under Chris Billy in the Kirkheaton goal.

The remainder of the first half saw neither side really troubling the goalkeepers, although Slaithwaite looked the more likely to increase their lead.

In the first 15 minutes of the second half, Kirkheaton really upped the tempo of the game and put the Slaithwaite defence under pressure.

Despite Kirkheaton’s possession and some good forward runs, Slaithwaite’s defence held firm and they didn't test Jason Raper in the Slaithwaite goal.

Slaithwaite then got to grips with the pace of the game and should have gone 2-0 in front, but Eastwood’s shot from inside the six-yard area went sailing over the bar.

After 65 minutes,Slaithwaite did increase their lead following some great play down the right hand side by Ryan Eastwood, whose pull back was met perfectly on the half volley by Luke Micklethwaite.

Julian Atkinson ensured the three points with five minutes remaining.
