Football operations chief Ross Wilson’s connections mean Malky Mackay and Steven Pressley are bound to be linked with the Huddersfield Town managerial vacancy.

Wilson worked with Mackay at Watford and Pressley at Falkirk.

Former Scotland international defender Pressley, 40, is the current manager of Coventry, from whom Town recruited Robins in February 2013.

One of the few men to have played for both Celtic and Rangers, he has been praised for keeping the Sky Blues in League I against the background of last season’s points deduction and their controversial move to groundshare at Northampton.

Mackay, 42, won widespread sympathy after his December sacking by Cardiff, whom he had led to promotion from the Championship in 2012-13.

He had come under criticism from club owner Vincent Tan concerning signings, transfer budgets, results and style of play.

The former Norwich defender managed Watford between 2009-11.

Skybet are offering 2/1 on both Pressley and ex-Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies taking over.

Neil Lennon is 6/1, Neil Warnock 7/1, Chris Hughton 16/1 and Tim Sherwood 16/1.

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara, a former Falkirk player, has also been linked.

The 40-year-old, who spent the bulk of his playing days as a defender with Celtic and also won 33 Scotland caps, cut his managerial teeth at Partick Thistle.
