Huddersfield Town's behind-closed-doors friendly against Manchester City tomorrow is off.

The match – which would have featured James Vaughan’s return after a three-match ban – has had the plug pulled by the Premier League giants.

It means Town boss Mark Robins will have to work in-house to prepare his squad –  now without skipper Peter Clarke until the New Year because of a medial knee ligament injury – for the Championship trip to face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough a week on Saturday.

Vaughan hasn’t played since being sent-off against Leicester on October 19, missing the senior matches against Leeds United, Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City.

Meanwhile, Town are stressing fans can take the chance on Saturday to watch the Under 18s take on Crystal Palace at Canalside (11am).

The talented young squad, beaten only once this season in 10 outings, will have Wales prospect Jake Charles in their ranks .

The defeat came in Town's last match against Swansea and Academy Manager Mark Lillis said:

“It was disappointing to lose, but the long journey back from Wales gave the staff time to watch the game back and assess what went wrong.

“We are trying to develop footballers and it is important they understand what went wrong.

“As coaches we expressed our disappointment and as players they were equally honest. We have educated them all week to hopefully eradicate the mistakes, which should help them bounce back with a victory.

“Hopefully we will have a few supporters turn up and we can get back to winning ways.”

Saturday’s opponents Crystal Palace have won just three times this year, but one of their victories was a 5-4 success over Swansea.
