Huddersfield Town's professional development coach Frankie Bunn is delighted his side have an opportunity to claim yet another Premier League scalp.

Bunn’s Under 18s beat Manchester United 2-1 in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup at the John Smith’s Stadium on Friday night to set up a quarter-final at Manchester City or Fulham, who play on Wednesday.

Ben Atkinson – brother of Town midfielder Chris – and Jake Charles got the goals to beat United, and Bunn believes his side were good value for their win.

“It’s terrific that we’ve got the chance to play either Manchester City or Fulham in the next round and it’s fully deserved,” said Bunn.

“It’s going to be another fantastic tie. We’ve talked about the education and development of the players and it doesn’t get better than this in that respect.

“The FA Youth Cup is the icing on the cake and to have a run is terrific, but we have our normal games programme and we’re still in touch in two competitions, which is fantastic for Huddersfield Town.”

The game was watched a crowd of 1,385 , including Sir Bobby Charlton, and former Oldham player Bunn believes the experience will bode well for the development of his players, and hopes fans will sit up and take note of the youth system.

“To play against one of the most iconic clubs in the country, a very good Manchester United team, and to come out on top in front of more than 1,000 people – you can’t get any better education than that.

“We were quietly confident, albeit against a very good Manchester United team.

“We said to the boys before the game, there won’t be many people outside of the dressing room that think you can win, but we believe you can win.

“The momentum keeps on going, and now hopefully the fans are starting to take notice of what we’re doing and what we’re achieving in the academy. I just hope it bodes well for the future of the football club.”

The City-Fulham clash is at Oldham’s Boundary Park on Wednesday (7.00).

But it’s understood that if City win, the tie against Town would be played at the Etihad Stadium, where City beat Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.
