LAST month’s Annual Conference for Supporters Trusts was held in Manchester for the first time and proved very successful – helped, no doubt, by major sponsorship from Virgin Media.
This is an ongoing partnership – yet another example of the support Supporters Direct is attracting.
Keynote speakers were Gordon Taylor, of the PFA, pictured, and James Purnell, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
Their presence alone is a measure of the growing importance accorded to the supporters’ body, and the latter was particularly encouraging, pledging Government backing for the Trust movement, including the wish to see every professional club with a supporter representative on its board.
There were also some excellent workshops, giving Trusts the chance to learn from each other in key areas like community involvement and co-operation with other supporter groups.
Now let’s get on with it!
