Mark Robins says he will continue to take the methodical approach to making new signings as he reshapes his Town squad for a Championship campaign which starts at home to Bournemouth on August 9.

The John Smith’s Stadium club confirmed their first new recruit of the close-season when former Coventry keeper Joe Murphy agreed a two-year deal this week .

Now Robins is looking further up the field, with a defender and a midfielder among his priorities, but insists he will not be rushed.

“The market in general has been quiet, with a lot of people going away on holiday and many players coming to the end of their current contracts,” he explained.

“We have done a lot of work on the recruitment side, and I’m confident things will start to fall into pace.

“But we will continue to be methodical in our approach, and with a budget to work to, it’s obviously important we get the right people on the right terms.

“We feel we have done that with Joe Murphy .”

Town continue to be linked with old boy Lee Peltier , currently at Leeds, but their interest in out-of-contract Blackpool and Northern Ireland centre-back Craig Cathcart appears to have cooled.

Town will send a side to Stalybridge Celtic for a friendly on Wednesday, July 30 (7.00).
