On loan Huddersfield Town striker Martin Paterson is keen to make his move to Bristol City permanent.

The 26-year-old Northern Ireland striker has slipped down the pecking order at Town with his last start against Millwall on January 11.

The former Scunthorpe and Burnley frontman told the Bristol Post that he was unhappy with his lack of game time for the Terriers.

He said: "I've been unhappy at not getting a chance, despite playing really well over the Christmas period and scoring a good amount of goals."

Paterson scored in four consecutive Town games in the festive programme with a goal in the 1-1 with Derby, another notch in the 5-1 victory over Yeovil and a brace in the 3-2 loss at Burnley.

He also netted in the narrow FA Cup win at Grimsby.

However less than a week later Town burst their transfer record to sign Nahki Wells from Bradford for £1.3m and Wells scored a last-gasp winner the following day to beat Millwall.

Paterson, who has scored six in 26 appearances for Town added: "It's really disappointing, because I'm looking to play. You cannot be happy or comfortable with life when you are sat on the bench.

"I have a lot of respect for the club and for the manager (Mark Robins), but I'm not happy with not playing at Huddersfield.

"I want to play a game on a Saturday, that's all. That's why I've come out on loan and, if an opportunity arises because someone says 'we fancy him', then I just want to play football.

"Evidently, I don't fit into the plans at Huddersfield and I have not for the past couple of months.

"If another manager likes me and says he wants me, then that can swing things."
