TOWN old boy Scott McDonald put the boot into Celtic - again.

Back in May, the Aussie striker's dramatic late double for Motherwell sealed a 2-1 win over Celtic to hand the Bank of Scotland Premier League title to Rangers.

And in the first game of the new season on Saturday, McDonald, who managed only one goal in 14 games when on loan to Town from Southampton at the start of the 2002-03 season, was on the mark again as Well held the Celts to a 4-4 draw.

Rangers opened with a 3-0 win over Livingston yesterday.

The result added to the pressure on new Celtic boss Gordon Strachan, whose side must overcome a 5-0 deficit when they host Artmedia Bratislava in the second leg of their Champions League second qualifying round tie tomorrow.

But Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell branded suggestions that Strachan is under pressure as "ludicrous".

Lawwell said: "The board are right behind Gordon. He needs time and will be given time to get it right.

"It is ludicrous for anyone to suggest he is under pressure.

"Gordon has only been working with the players for four weeks and we have played two competitive games.

"He has a tough job because he is following in Martin O'Neill's footsteps.

"Martin brought fantastic success to this club and is viewed as a legend.

"Gordon is manager and has our full backing. It is a measure of the man that he had it in him to follow Martin. Other people would not have taken on that task."
