JUNIOR MENDES will be aiming to open his Town goals account in tonight's friendly at Bradford Park Avenue (7.30).

The 27-year-old former Mansfield frontman will definitely get a run-out at the Horsfall Stadium as manager Peter Jackson continues Town's build-up to the Coca-Cola League I campaign.

Mendes was not involved in the 2-0 win at Ossett Town on Monday, but Jackson has promised he and the other three first-team strikers - Andy Booth, Pawel Abbott and John McAliskey - will be in action at some stage against Avenue.

Goalkeeper Ian Gray will also start tonight in place of Phil Senior while defenders Nathan Clarke, David Mirfin and Efe Sodje will all get a run-out.

Jackson has yet to decide whether to take another look at ex-Sheffield Wednesday defender Steve Haslam or Sodje's striker brother Akpo, but he is taking the full 22-man senior squad.

"We will have a strong team out and it's just a question of trying to sharpen our fitness again for the start of the new season," said the manager.

"Results are important in pre-season because it's nice to get the momentum going, but to come through without injury problems is also a major factor and so far we've been doing well in that department."

Midfield signing Chris Brandon is looking forward to the game. He started his career with Avenue.
