The 25-year-old became a cult figure with the fans, and hopes to strike up a similar rapport with the Town faithful.
“I am thankful for the opportunity I have been given and excited by it,” said Hefele, who has signed a three-year contract and intends to live in Huddersfield.
“I have researched this club and been to a game and watched videos and I am proud to have this chance to play here.
“The fans in Germany respect hard work and commitment and I am told it is the same here.
“I can tell them I will give my all in every game and every training session.
“My style is to play with a lot of will and a lot of passion, but to also stay cool headed.
“I like to put a tackle in, but I also like to try to play some football.
