Middlesbrough's bid to sign former Huddersfield Town striker Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn Rovers is still alive.

With Town set to pocket 20% of any profit on the £8m Blackburn paid them three years ago, that’s the word from Boro boss Aitor Karanka, linked with a £14m move for the Scotland international.

The chances of Rhodes moving to Middlesbrough appeared to lessen after Rovers sold his fellow frontman Rudy Gestede to Aston Villa for £6m last week.

Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer is desperate to keep the 25-year-old goal-getter.

But Karanka today said: “We are working on Jordan and other players.

“He is not my player so I have enough problems with my own players than to speak about players who are not here now.

“I don’t know what will happen. You never know.”

Rhodes, having expressed disappointment at not being able to speak to Boro, started for Rovers in their 3-0 friendly win over Wigan at Ewood Park on Saturday.

The 25-year-old has plundered 73 goals in 134 games for Blackburn, who are Town’s first Championship visitors of the season a week on Saturday.

Rhodes scored 87 goals across three seasons at Town after arriving from Ipswich Town in a £400,000 deal back in 2009.
