Chris Powell's side took an early lead courtesy of a powerful strike from Sean Scannell after a lovely lobbed pass from Conor Coady, but the Lions soon levelled through powerful striker Stefan Maierhofer from a Shaun Williams free-kick.
Town were then reduced to 10 men slightly harshly after Nahki Wells was adjudged to have hauled down Williams , but Jacob Butterfield's long-range drive crept under David Forde to re-establish Town's advantage and they sealed the win thanks to a late James Vaughan penalty, after Harry Bunn was upended by Williams.
