Huddersfield Town overcame the dismissal of Nahki Wells to secure a 3-1 win away at relegation rivals Millwall thanks to goals from Sean Scannell, Jacob Butterfield and James Vaughan.

Scannell had handed Town the lead but Stefan Maierhofer levelled for the hosts before Wells was sent off, but Butterfield's long-range drive and Vaughan's penalty after a foul on Harry Bunn secured all three points for the Terriers.

Analysis

Town show guts - The sending-off of Nahki Wells could easily have thrown Chris Powell's men off their stride but they responded brilliantly to the dismissal and were full value for three points after foiling a toothless Millwall side and getting their bit of luck on the break with some incisive attacking play.

Main man

Jacob Butterfield - There were a few contenders, but with the game level, Town's midfield general showed courage and a determination to carry his side upfield and was so calm with the ball when it mattered most.

Bigger picture

Starving a lowly side of points - However anyone wanted to paint this game, there was a level of pressure attached given only seven points separated the sides, but this may now have the Terriers believing in their credentials to move up the table.

It also means the Lions are facing a precarious future in this division and Chris Powell will hope his side can continue showing such consistency away at sides around them in the league.
