YOUNG David Mirfin could get a plum Town call-up against Sunderland at the McAlpine tomorrow night.
The 18-year-old centre-back was pulled out of today's Academy team playing a friendly at Rotherham to join the first-team squad for training.
Mirfin seems certain to get his chance because Steve Yates and Lee Fowler cannot play as they are contracted with Sheffield United and Coventry respectively.
Mirfin made his Football League debut as a substitute in last season's final fixture against Oldham at the McAlpine and manager Peter Jackson commented:
"David is an out and out centre-back and it would be useful to have a look at him in there, rather than moving someone to deputise in the middle.
"He had a little taste of League football last season so this will be another good experience for him."
Jackson is boosted by the return of new signing from Oldham, Tony Carss, who has overcome the thigh injury which kept him out against Halifax.
Winger John Thorrington also trained yesterday after missing the 3-2 win at The Shay and both will be included in the squad against Sunderland.
"We are just keeping an eye on one or two injury niggles and I don't know at this stage exactly what the line-up will be," added Jackson.
"It should be a cracking match though and it would be great to get a big crowd down here to give the new lads a boost in their first match at home."
Fans should note that it's all pay tomorrow night in the St Andrew's Road car park (£2).
