DAVID MIRFIN proved his fitness and scored, but Town Reserves lost 3-1 at Port Vale yesterday in the Pontin’s Central Division.

Mirfin and fellow defender Joe Skarz played only the first half and Malvin Kamara an hour with a view to Saturday’s first-team clash with Doncaster.

Danny Glover and Rob Taylor scored early on to give Vale the advantage, although Mirfin pulled one back with a header from a Skarz corner.

By then, Lucas Akins had hit a post and, in the second half, Mitchell Bailey forced a fine save from Vale keeper Lloyd Ransome.

Steve Thompson put Vale out of reach with a third goal on 54 minutes.

Town: Eastwood, Racchi, Codman, Hardy, Mirfin (Harris, HT), Tom Clarke, Karmara (Roberts, 60mins), Skarz (Nightingale, HT), Akins, Schofield, Bailey. Subs not used: Heagney, Pickering.
