DAVID MIRFIN would love to still be playing for Town when he's 30!
The strong central defender `celebrated' his 21st birthday on Tuesday as Town lost 2-1 to Chesterfield at the Galpharm.
But he's already looking to the future and to forging a long-term career with Peter Jackson's side.
"It wasn't much of a 21st because of the game and, with the result, it was very muted indeed," said Mirfin, who headed straight home to Sheffield afterwards.
"I'd known for a while, of course, that the game would clash with my birthday so I knew there would be no party or anything, but I would have liked a good win!
"I suppose the next big birthday will be my 30th, so with any luck I'll still be playing here and we won't have a game to worry about.
"The best 21st birthday present I could ask for would be to still be playing for Town when I'm 30.
"I love it at the club, I know the lads really well because we've come through from the juniors together and I really do think we are going to have a successful future here."
Mirfin has enjoyed renewing his central defensive partnership with Nathan Clarke while Martin McIntosh has been injured, and he's been happy with his own form.
"It was just great to get back in the team, even at right-back, but I've really enjoyed being in the middle again," said the lifelong Sheffield United fan.
"Nathan and myself have settled well and I'm feeling fitter and stronger."
