ATHLETICO Monkey strengthened their position at the top of Kirklees Sunday League with a 5-2 home win over Woodfield Park.

The visitors took a shock 2-1 lead going into the break thanks to a brace from Mark Robertshaw, with Dean Siddiq on target for Monkey.

After the break, the home side fought back and scored with two goals each from Anthony and Ben Dobson, to ensure a comfortable margin of victory.

A solitary strike from Paul Nuttall earned First Huddersfield a 1-0 victory over HD One and close the gap on table-toppers Waterloo BC to five points.

Craven Hudds progressed to the semi-final of the Kirklees Sunday League Challenge Cup with a thrilling 5-3 victory over Pak Rangers.

Rangers had two players sent off within the opening 10 minutes but still lead 3-2 going into the break with strikes from Zamar Ullah, Yasser Ali, and Amer Ghaffar. Daz Smith scored both of Craven’s goals.

The home side netted a dramatic late equaliser with just two minutes remaining through substitute Shane Kelly to force extra-time.

Goals from Dave Brennan and Matt Butters in extra-time ensured Craven booked a semi-final tie against Britannia Sports or GMB Meltham.

In-form Black Bull also secured their place in the last four with a 5-2 victory over Field Head.

Against the run of play Bull took a surprise 2-0 lead thanks to a brace from David Gill, before the visitors halved the deficit through Luke Gilman.

A 25-yard strike from Sam Haigh early in the second half restored the hosts’ two-goal advantage before man-of-the-match Jordan Kennifick added a late double.

Andy McKinley grabbed a consolation for Head but it proved in vain as Bull progressed to play either White Swan or First Huddersfield in the semi-finals.

Britannia Sports’ long run in the West Riding Trophy came to an abrupt end at the sixth round stage, going down 3-0 away to Mill Lane.
