Murray Wallace is more than willing to fight for his place at Huddersfield Town.

The centre-back is eyeing a third successive start and 11th of the season at home to Reading in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

But with Joel Lynch recovering from a groin problem, Anthony Gerrard pushing for inclusion and boss Chris Powell eyeing a defensive reinforcement during the January transfer window, Wallace knows there are no guarantees.

“I’d say no position in the team is nailed down because there’s great competition for places,” said the 21-year-old Scot.

“I’m just happy as always to be in the side. I’m trying to do as well I can in the hope I keep playing.”

Former Falkirk player Wallace has enjoyed operating alongside experienced skipper Mark Hudson.

“You need to play regularly for it to develop,” he added.

“It’s slowly coming and I enjoy playing alongside Mark. He’s a strong leader and a presence for us at the back.”

Wallace, who helped Town win 2-1 at Reading in the Championship in August, has weighed in with two goals this season.

And he’s eager to be an influence in both penalty boxes as Town plot a cup run and a push for the top half of the Championship.

“I just try to attack the ball at our set-pieces,” he explained.

“Hopefully it causes a few problems for the opposition.

“If I can win the first header from a corner or free-kick the ball might either go in or break for somebody else to score.”
