TOWN manager Simon Grayson today urged his players to produce the same desire and passion which beat Blackpool when they entertain Watford on Saturday.

With Town second in the Championship after successive 3-1 away wins at Sheffield Wednesday and at Bloomfield Road, Grayson is determined his buoyant squad should not drop their standards.

Goals by Lee Novak, James Vaughan and Oliver Norwood extended Town’s unbeaten run to six league matches with a home double header to come (Leicester visit next Tuesday).

But the manager is warning no-one should take anything for granted.

“You don’t get any extra points just because you have beaten a team who could have gone top, so we have to keep our feet on the ground, even though I was delighted with the performance,” said Grayson.

“We went with a plan to make sure we pushed high up the pitch and made them kick long, and we had two centre-halves (Peter Clarke and Anthony Gerrard) who are very comfortable heading balls.

“You do see the rotation in Blackpool’s midfield and among the strikers, but we stayed with runners – that was all part of our gameplan.

“Everyone stuck to what they had been asked to do and I’ve a huge amount of respect for the players for what they produced, bearing in mind the opposition and the fact we were at a difficult place.”

So what’s the approach to the visit of Gianfranco Zola’s Watford?

“We have to be sensible and not get carried away,” explained Grayson.

“Everyone will look at Watford, think they are mid table-ish and that we just have to turn up and win – but that’s not how football works.

“That’s what happened at Blackpool. Everyone just thought they would turn up and win, but we produced a performance.

“So we have to prepare as well as we possibly can and make sure we show the same endeavour, passion, desire and hunger because, if we continue to do that, we will get results.”

Centre-back Joel Lynch will serve the second match of a three-game ban against Watford, when Adam Hammill (knee) is again a doubt.
