Jonathan Hogg wants Huddersfield Town to put on a show for their fans against Nottingham Forest and pledged: “We need to stay on the front foot.”

The 25-year-old midfielder reckons he’s happier now than at any stage of his 15-month Town career thanks to the encouragement of new boss Chris Powell.

And he sees no reason why Town can’t build on a six-match unbeaten run by pressing on into the top half of the table – even though the home clash against Forest is followed by trips to Derby County and Fulham ahead of the international break.

“The gaffer is giving the team and myself a lot of confidence and we are in the frame of mind where we are going into games with no fear,” said Hogg, who signed a three-year deal on his arrival from Watford in July last year.

“We’re not worried about any opposition at the moment. In fact, I think they should be worried about us with the way we are playing. There is a lot of belief in our club, the atmosphere has changed and that confidence is a massive thing for us.

“Forest will come and be energetic and want to be on the ball, so we need to stay on the front foot. We need to be positive in what we are doing and try to keep that run going by putting on a show for our fans.”

Hogg is a former teammate of Forest’s Britt Assombalonga at Watford and says Town will need to be on their guard against the 21-year-old nine-goal frontman.

“We need to keep him quiet because he’s a quick, strong boy who knows the way to the back of the net,” said Hogg.

“The lads know we’ll have our fans right behind us, though, and that’s a massive help.

“It certainly makes a difference to me and my game. I knew this year was a big one for me because I made a slow start here last season and I’m the first to admit it was not my best year in football.

“I knew I needed to knuckle down and do what I’m good at and, hopefully, I’ve been doing that. Chris Powell has certainly given me a lot of confidence and that’s a big thing for me.”
