Harry Bunn has signed a new contract at Huddersfield Town.

The former Manchester City forward has committed himself to the club until 2019 and is the first existing player to agree fresh terms since David Wagner became head coach.

The 23-year-old’s new deal – which includes a further-year option in the club’s favour – comes two years after he first joined, initially on loan, and indicates the boss feels he has a fruitful role to play in seasons ahead.

Wagner commented: “I’m very happy Harry has signed a new contract.

“Hopefully we will have successful years together at this club.

“He is exactly the type of player I like and prefer, an offensive-thinking player who likes to work very hard and can work defensively too.

“He is also a good age in terms of potential and is an example to those in the Under 21 team now.

“If you are patient and work hard, you will get a chance here. He shows how important the club’s Under 21 players are.”

Since arriving at PPG Canalside, he has made 52 appearances, all but 10 of them starts, and scored 11 goals.

The son of Town’s senior development coach and former Hull City and Oldham Athletic striker Frankie, Bunn spent a decade at City.

Town started tracking him while he was on loan to Crewe Alexandra early in the 2012-13 season (he also had spells at Rochdale, Preston North End, Oldham and Sheffield United).

But a knee injury interrupted his progress, and he finally arrived in Huddersfield in December 2013.

Oldham-born Bunn, previously contracted until 2017, helped Town Under 21s win the Professional Development League II North in 2014.

He made his first start early last season, scoring in the 2-1 Championship win at Reading.
