Lee Peltier can’t wait to team up with best mate James Vaughan at Huddersfield Town.

Defender Peltier has just returned to the club on a three-year contract after leaving Championship rivals Leeds.

And striker Vaughan, last season’s 12-goal top scorer, will be back after a knee operation when pre-season training gets under way next week.

Peltier, a Town player between 2009-11 who came through the youth system at Liverpool, was quick to consult Everton product Vaughan when he found out about his old club’s interest.

I spoke to Dean Hoyle, Ross Wilson and Mark Robins – then I rang Vaughany,” revealed the 27-year-old, who can play full-back, in central defence or midfield.

“The two of us have been close for years.

“He is godfather to my daughter Sophia (aged two), I was his best man and we live around the corner from each other in Liverpool.

“We’ll be travelling to and from Huddersfield together, which will be great.

“This will be the first time we have played in the same side, and it’s something I’m really looking forward to.

“Vaughany is a great player who will get goals, and hopefully he’ll stay fit.

“I think we can each offer something at opposite ends of the pitch and help push the club up that table.”

While he suffered a frustrating second half of the season at Leeds, Peltier finished on a positive with a loan stint at Nottingham Forest, who were keen to sign him on a permanent deal.

“I had a few options, but Town just feels right for me,” he explained.

“I’ve always stayed in touch with Dean Hoyle and I know he will keep pushing the club forward.

“Having the security of this contract is great and I can’t wait to get back to work.”

One-time Town target Craig Cathcart has signed for Watford on a two-year deal.
