TOWN are to hold a mini training camp in the south west in 10 days time.

Manager Peter Jackson is keen to cut down on extra travelling now the re-arranged Bristol Rovers away game has been fixed for Tuesday, February 17 (7.45).

That's immediately after Town play Torquay at Plainmoor on Saturday week, so the squad will stay down for the two matches.

"It would have been pointless us travelling back from Torquay, training on the Sunday and then setting off again for Bristol on the Monday," said Jackson.

"The costs involved are not a lot more and the hotel we will be using has full training facilities, so it will be far more restful for the players and much better preparation to stay down."

Jackson confirmed Town's costs from last Saturday's postponement at the Memorial Ground are being reimbursed.

One of those hoping to be involved in the trip is Tony Carss.

The versatile 27-year-old has missed eight matches and a spell of two months because of a niggling knee injury.

He is now back in full training, however, and has an outside chance of being included in the squad for this Saturday's Quid-a-Kid game against Darlington at the McAlpine.

"Tony made a big impact earlier in the season - who will ever forget his dream goal against Torquay - and it's been really frustrating that he has struggled with injury lately," said Jackson.

"He joined in with the rest of the lads yesterday, though, enjoyed himself and is really looking forward to playing again.

"It's a shame today's Reserve game was called off - although the decision was absolutely right because of the heavy rain - because Tony could have had a good run-out.

"But he has kept up his general fitness, which is always good in any case, and now that he's on the verge of a return it is like having a new signing joining the club."

Whether Carss makes it in time to face Darlington or not, Jackson is glad that he and Paul Scott - who is expected to join the full squad tomorrow - are well on the road to recovery.

"Carssy, like everyone else at this club, has a big role to play over the next two to three months," he said.

"Tony made a good contribution in several positions earlier in the season and there is no doubt he will add to our goal threat when he's back.

"Paul Scott will be looking to do well, too, after his injury problem and fight his way back into the team."
