Huddersfield Town should expect a fierce, monochrome reception when they face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday August 13.

The Toon Army are being encouraged to don their team’s colours for their first home game of the season in an attempt to make the occasion “Black and White Day”.

The initiative was started by Gallowgate Flags - a band of fans dedicated to ‘bringing the noise back to St James’ Park’.

The North East club has backed the group and is helping supporters plan their ambitious events.

The Gallowgate Flags campaign is being fully-funded by the fans, and the group have raised over £5000 to put together their first display.

Huddersfield Town supporters group North Stand Loyal have also started a Crowdfunder page for their flags this season, with £365 being raised so far.

The Terriers will be the first to see Newcastle’s exhibition, with the first set of banners and flags set to be unveiled half an hour before David Wagner’s men kick off against the Magpies.

The group’s co-founder Alex Hurst, said: “For years now ideas to ‘bring back the noise’ to St James’ Park have been discussed by match-going fans at St James’ Park.

“As a group we’re trying to create something to achieve that goal. Fans arriving early to the game will see the unique flag display we have planned and can be part of a sea of black and white creating an atmosphere to inspire the players, manager and fellow supporters.”
