Huddersfield Town face a stern test in getting their first away points on the board this year, with a visit to St James' Park to take on fallen giants Newcastle United first up.

An equally tricky trip to Aston Villa awaits next week and Town will be hoping they can bring home at least a point from the North East to keep their league form in tact.

The Terriers won their opening game of the season against Brentford, showing good character to pinch the winner after conceding a late equaliser.

We spoke to a Newcastle expert to see what Huddersfield Town can expect from the Toon and what the Magpies make of their next opponents.

Here is what Lee Ryder, chief sports writer at the Evening Chronicle, had to say about this weekend's encounter.

How did Newcastle's pre-season go?

"United were unbeaten and only looked shaky in one half of one of their games, away to Doncaster.

"Back then they were 2-0 down at the break after conceding two sloppy goals.

"Thankfully for United fans that collapse didn't last long after Rafa Benitez warned his players it was 'unacceptable' and they fought back from 2-0 down."

What do the fans expect of your club this season?

"I think most are expecting an instant return and given the signings made so far they look more capable.

"Rafa Benitez is targeting nothing but promotion at the first attempt and wants a flying start."

Where do you think the Toon will finish?

"I think they'll win it but it won't be easy.

"Newcastle should chalk up some big scores at home but they'll need to be a bit more savvy away from home and grind out results.

"With Rafa in the hot-seat a tactical game plan each week shouldn't be a problem."

What did you make of the opening day defeat to Fulham?

"I think the Newcastle United players will know now how hard this division is going to be.

"I think that was a real wake-up call for them. I think they started the game off quite well to be honest, in terms of possession, but they weren't making many clear cut chances.

"In the second half they came out and it was deeply disappointing.

"I think Benitez was a frustrated man in the dugout, you could see that."

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez

What do you make of Huddersfield Town's chances this year?

"I think they have a manager in David Wagner who is ambitious and has a great grounding after working with Jurgen Klopp.

"The bookies seem to think Town have no chance but there's always a team that emerges as a surprise package.

"They could push for a top 10 spot but maybe the play-offs is out of reach."

How many points do you think your team will take from the Terriers?

"I think Newcastle will win the first game comfortably as it's in front of their own fans and an expectant crowd.

"Away from home is tricky, but I'd settle for four points out of six."
