Huddersfield Town travel to St James' Park to take on Newcastle United this weekend for the first time since 1983.

Newcastle won the last league encounter at the historic ground, thumping Town 5-2 on their way to promotion from the Second Division.

The sides have faced each other since then in the League Cup, with the Toon beating Town 4-3 despite the home side trailing 3-1 in the 47th minute thanks to a Jordan Rhodes effort.

In fact, the Terriers have not won at St James' Park since 1953, when Jimmy Glazzard and a Frank Brennan own goal handed Town a 2-0 victory.

Overall Town have won 20 matches against Newcastle, with the Toon triumphing 25 times - 15 have ended in draws.

Rafa Benitez will be looking to put right the opening day defeat to Fulham and could well give new signings Mohamed Diame and Ciaran Clark their Newcastle debuts.

David Wagner will also be hoping to get back to winning ways after his side were humiliatingly dumped out of the EFL Cup by League One outfit Shrewsbury Town.
