THERE’S an unexpected look to this season’s Lockwood Private Hire Trophy final after both semis were won by the underdogs.

Holders Marsh will face Wellington Westgate B after wins over Wellington Westgate A and Field Head respectively.

Marsh are at the foot of the First Division, but were deserved 4-1 winners over Welly A, starting strongly and looking solid at the back and lively in attack.

The breakthrough came when a free-kick was flighted in, Paul Quinn beat the keeper to head on and Adam Bell hooked the ball home.

The lead was soon doubled through James Meadows, who latched onto a through ball and coolly rounding the keeper to slot home.

It was 3-0 early in the second half, when Quinn swung in a corner and the ball was nodded back into the danger area for Connor Tuff to flick it home.

Bell then grabbed his second with a volley low into the bottom left-hand corner.

Marsh had to withstand sustained pressure for the remainder of the game, with Welly pulling a goal back from the penalty spot through Lee Bradshaw.

Welly B might be bottom of Division II, but that didn’t prevent them putting out third-placed Field Head, who recently beat them 7-0 in a league game.

Victory was claimed 5-4 on penalties – keeper Mick Carr crucially saving Field Head’s second – after the game finished at 3-3 after extra time.

Welly’s scorers in normal play were Dave Khangura (2) and John Tordoff while the successful men from the spot were Tordoff, Dan Johnson, Aaron Afsar, Josh Phillips and Dean Lewis.

League leaders Pak Rangers continued their title push with a 4-3 win over third-placed Inter Athletic.

Brighton Mugadza, Declan Thomas, Paul Pyke and Jamie Jobarteh scored.

Second-placed Black Bull stayed six points behind Pak by beating Dalton 4-3 at Standiforth, Sylvester (2), Dignan and Green notching for the Shepley side.

Dalton opened the scoring through Reece Nyland, but Bull levelled with a penalty.

Jamie Hartley put Dalton back in front from the sport after a foul on Chris Swift, but Bull levelled again from a free-kick.

The visitors then went ahead for the first time before Ryan Haigh scored a bullet header to make it 3-3.

Dalton, however, were unable to hold out for a point.
