NETHERTON'S Under 16 double bid fell at the final hurdle when they were beaten 2-1 by Norristhorpe in the Cup.

The Big Valley club have put the heartbreak of last season's relegation behind them and bounced back to take the Division II title along with a superb Cup run but they were just edged out by Norristhorpe in the end.

Norristhorpe have been one of the unluckiest teams ever to play in the RCD League.

The Mirfield side, having finished league runners-up in the last two seasons and also losing finalists in the Under 13, 14 and 15 Cup finals, were determined that this was going to be their year.

Everything was looking good for Norristhorpe when Adam Womersley gave them a 10th minute lead but, by the time Alex Thomas fired Netherton back on level terms just before the break, Norristhorpe were beginning to look nervously at the prospect of yet another Cup heartbreak.

Netherton kept up the pressure in the second half and almost took the lead but a Thomas snapshot rebounded from the bar.

The near miss finally inspired Norristhorpe to show the kind of form which has kept them at the top for so many years and when Bradley Robinson restored their lead 10 minutes from time there was no way they were going to let this one slip away.

Netherton will have to settle for their Second Division title while Norristhorpe can, at last, celebrate a Cup victory.
