Huddersfield Town’s senior development coach Frankie Bunn is looking forward to the challenge of visiting Southampton in the last 16 of the Under 21 Premier League Cup on January 25.

But his immediate thoughts will be very much on the latest Monday afternoon Professional Development League clash at Nottingham Forest (1.00).

Bunn’s side are seeking an amazing 14th straight win in the game which will be played at Forest’s training ground.

That run includes a 1-0 victory over the East Midlands side in the Premier League Cup qualifying round in October.

But Forest were also the last team Town, who top PDL II North, failed to beat, back on August 29.

The visitors to PPG Canalside were 2-0 winners thanks to a double by James Thorne.

Since then it’s been wins all the way for Town, 11 in the league, and the latest 3-2 at home to Hull City last Monday.

Bunn believes there is a strong link between the first team and his side.

“There is a lot of confidence around the club, which is great. Supporters and players are enjoying the football and that filters down. We’re trying to emulate that,” he said.

“We’re half-way through our season and I think our performances have been really good.”

Town, who made last season’s PDL final, losing 3-2 to Swansea City in South Wales, also have a home league game against Crewe next Monday, January 18, before the clash with Premier League Cup holders Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.

The young Saints were 1-0 winners over Chelsea in their first-round tie last Wednesday.

Town, who made the quarter-finals last season before losing to Reading, beat Middlesbrough 2-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium in the first round.

Skipper Joe Wilkinson and Jack Boyle got the goals as Town came from behind to beat the Teessiders.

Town Under 18s return to action against Sheffield United at PPG Canalside on Saturday (11.00).

They were 5-1 home winners over Bolton Wanderers last time out.
