Huddersfield Town have signed Nottingham Forest forward Jamie Paterson on loan with a view to a permanent move.

They beat off competition from rival Championship clubs for the 23-year-old's signature on a season-long deal.

Coventry-born Paterson is well known to Town.

The attacking midfielder or No10-style forward was a target when at Walsall (he joined Forest in 2013).

He made 102 appearances for the Saddlers, scoring 16 goals.

The first of them was against Town in a 1-1 League I draw at the John Smith’s in November 2011.

While at Walsall, he was regularly monitored by Wolves, the former employers of Town’s football operations chief Stuart Webber.

He has notched 13 times in 66 outings for Forest, 30 of them from the bench.

Paterson bagged a double when Forest beat Town 3-0 in a Championship clash in Huddersfield in February 2014.

He also scored a hat trick in Forest’s 5-0 FA Cup third-round win over West Ham United that season.

He has a City Ground contract through to 2018, but is struggling to force his way into manager Dougie Freedman’s plans after falling out of favour under Stuart Pearce.
